Let's talk about clay!

Clay is a great way to build your child's fine motor skills! The movements it takes to create a ball, roll the clay, and squeeze it, these are the movements are actually what help build the muscles that will allow your child to hold a pencil, use scissors, and have better hand-eye coordination. There's a misconception that having our young kids start writing as early as 2/3 years old will help them write better, but it's the actual movements like playing with mud, clay, playdoh, and sand that give them the strength to use things like a pencil or scissors; making the transition to writing smoother once it becomes more age appropriate for them to write. If your child shows interest in writing at any age, follow their lead of course, but using clay to create letters, shapes, etc. will help them the most!
